The 1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar represents an important transitional period in early American coinage. The year 1806 saw substantial half dollar production, but finding CAC-approved examples in XF condition (or really any condition) remains challenging as most survived with significant wear or damage or were harshly cleaned at some point.
This NGC XF40 CAC example displays absolutely exceptional quality for the grade with attractive medium-gray patina throughout. The surfaces show honest wear consistent with the grade but remain remarkably free of distracting marks or problems. Liberty's hair details remain well-defined, and the eagle's wing feathers show impressive detail. The eye appeal is outstanding for a circulated early half dollar, with smooth fields and natural toning that enhances rather than conceals the coin's features.
