1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50c) Small 8
PCGS XF40
The 1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar is a fascinating early American coin from the era when the young nation was on the brink of the War of 1812. These early Capped Bust halves were struck during a time when silver coinage was still somewhat scarce in circulation, making survivors in this grade particularly desirable.
This XF40 example has developed a lovely medium gray patina with subtle hints of original luster still visible in protected areas. The surfaces show honest wear consistent with the grade, yet retain impressive detail in Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's wing feathers. The strike appears well-centered with good definition throughout. The "Small 8" is clearly visible, and the fields display minimal marks for a coin that spent time in commerce. The eye appeal is excellent for the grade, with an authentic appearance that early American silver specialists will appreciate.
