1824/1 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50c)
PCGS VF35
The 1824/1 Capped Bust Half Dollar is a fascinating overdate variety, where the final digit 4 was punched over a previous 1. This variety occurred as the Mint economized by reusing an 1821-dated die, modifying it for use in 1824. It's one of the most dramatic overdates in the Capped Bust series.
This VF35 example displays honest wear with pleasing pearl-gray surfaces. The overdate feature remains clear and visible to the naked eye - a desirable trait as this feature often becomes obscured with wear. The surfaces are remarkably clean for the grade, free of any distracting marks or problems. A strong representative of this popular variety with excellent eye appeal for the grade.
