1829 Capped Bust Half Dollar (50c) O-112 Small Letters
PCGS XF45
The 1829 Capped Bust Half Dollar represents a transitional period in American numismatics. This issue comes from a time when the Mint was beginning to standardize its production processes but still striking coins with some hand finishing. Finding well-preserved examples of the 1829 Capped Bust with original surfaces has become increasingly challenging.
This XF45 example displays a lovely natural gray patina that has developed over nearly two centuries. The surfaces show honest wear consistent with the grade, yet retain impressive detail in Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's wing feathers. What sets this coin apart is its even wear pattern and the absence of significant marks or damage. The fields retain some reflectivity, especially evident on the reverse, where the eagle's shield and wing details remain crisp and well-defined. The eye appeal is excellent for the grade, with the natural toning adding significant character to this early half dollar.
