1854 Gold Three Dollar ($3)

The 1854 $3 gold piece is significant for being the inaugural year of this unique denomination. Its introduction was part of an era of experimentation with coinage designs and denominations.

This coin, graded AU58 by CAC, is one of our favorite purchases from the 2024 ANA show. It exhibits wonderful original luster and only slight rub on the high points, consistent with its almost uncirculated status. The rich golden surfaces are smooth, exhibiting minimal contact marks. With solid eye appeal and lightly circulated preservation, this piece stands out as an excellent example of this first-year issue.
