PCGS
MS65 RB
CAC
The 1868 Two-Cent piece represents the twilight years of this short-lived denomination, which would be discontinued just four years later in 1872. While nearly 3 million were struck, the two-cent piece was rapidly falling out of favor with the public as the nickel three-cent piece and five-cent piece gained popularity. As a result, many were saved rather than circulated, making high-grade examples more available than their earlier counterparts.
This CAC-approved PCGS MS65RB is a stunning example that retains significant original mint red color blended with light brown toning. The surfaces are exceptionally clean for the grade, with sharp shield details and crisp dentils around the periphery. The coin exhibits impressive cartwheel luster that dances across both obverse and reverse when rotated under light. The eye appeal is outstanding, with the rich copper-red hues making this gem a standout representative of the series.
