The 1879 Seated Liberty Half Dollar is a fascinating issue from the late 19th century. While not particularly rare in circulated grades, proof examples are another story entirely - only 1,100 proofs were struck for this date.
This PR63 CAC example housed in a 1st-generation PCGS rattler displays impressive reflective fields and crisp, well-defined design elements throughout. The surfaces show minimal hairlines consistent with the grade, while retaining strong contrast between the mirrored fields and frosted devices. The eye appeal is outstanding, with pristine original surfaces showing attractive light toning around the peripheries. CAC's approval confirms this coin's superior quality for the assigned grade.
Finding CAC-approved proof Seated halves from the 1870s in original holders has become increasingly challenging. This coin represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a premium quality example of this classic American design in a wonderful piece of plastic.
