1903-S Morgan Dollar ($1)
PCGS
XF40
CAC
The 1903-S Morgan Dollar is a significant semi-key date in the series, with a modest mintage of just 1,241,000 pieces. Many 1903-S dollars were melted under the Pittman Act of 1918, making survivors considerably scarcer than the original mintage suggests.
This CAC-approved XF40 example shows honest, moderate circulation wear that's evenly distributed across the high points. The coin displays an attractive pearl-gray patina that's complemented by hints of original luster still visible in the protected areas. The strike is bold, particularly on the reverse where the eagle's feathers remain well-defined. The surfaces are notably clean for the grade, free from the distracting marks or gouges that often plague circulated Morgans. The eye appeal is exceptional for a coin at this grade level.
