1907 High Relief Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle ($20) Wire Edge OGH
PCGS
MS64
CAC
The 1907 High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle represents one of the most artistic and technically challenging issues in American numismatics. President Theodore Roosevelt personally commissioned renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to redesign America's coinage, resulting in this magnificent ultra-high relief design. Due to the difficulty in striking these coins (each required multiple blows from the press), only 12,367 were produced before the Mint switched to a lower relief version for practical production.
This MS64 CAC example housed in a classic OGH is one of the nicest 64s we’ve had the pleasure of seeing. The surfaces exhibit rich, satiny luster with a warm honey-gold color that radiates when tilted in the light. For the grade, the fields show minimal marks and abrasions, allowing the sculptural quality of this high relief masterpiece to shine through. The eye appeal is exceptional, with sharp strikes on Liberty's flowing gown and the eagle's wing feathers. A true numismatic treasure that exemplifies the artistic vision Roosevelt and Saint-Gaudens sought to achieve.
