1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent (1c)
PCGS
XF40 BN
CAC
The 1909-S VDB Lincoln cent is a cornerstone of numismatic history. As the inaugural year of the Lincoln cent, this issue combined both the debut of the iconic design with the low mintage of only 484,000 pieces from the San Francisco Mint. The initials "VDB," for designer Victor David Brenner, were initially placed prominently on the reverse but quickly removed, adding to the coin's early scarcity and appeal.
This coin, graded XF40 by PCGS and graced with a CAC sticker, showcases honest wear with an even, pleasing, medium-brown patina. With smooth surfaces and only minor contact marks, this example offers a classic yet distinguished representation of early 20th-century mint craftsmanship.
