1913-D Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle ($20)
PCGS
MS63
CAC
The 1913-D Saint-Gaudens double eagle represents an important branch mint issue. The Denver Mint produced just 393,500 examples this year, making it considerably scarcer than its Philadelphia counterpart. While not the rarest date in the series, the 1913-D remains a conditional rarity in higher mint state grades.
This CAC-approved MS63 example displays exceptional eye appeal for the grade. The surfaces show rich, satiny luster with minimal bag marks for the grade level. The strike is bold, particularly evident in the capitol building's details and the eagle's wing feathers. The original skin has a pleasing golden-honey color that remains untouched and pristine. Finding 1913-D Saints with this level of originality and eye appeal is increasingly difficult.
