The 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar represents the inaugural year of what many consider America's most beautiful silver coin design. As a first-year issue, these coins were often saved by the public, but finding one with the exceptional quality seen here remains a significant challenge. The Philadelphia mint struck just over 600,000 of these coins, making them considerably scarcer than their San Francisco counterparts from the same year.
This Gold CAC-approved MS64+ example displays beyond impressive quality. At first glance, one might think the coin is just shy of gem (as NGC originally did). However the coin is beyond a true gem -- we feel it's at least an MS66. The surfaces exhibit rich, satiny luster with beautiful light toning that enhances rather than masks the coin's natural brilliance. The strike is remarkably bold for the issue, with Liberty's hand and the eagle's feathers showing strong definition. The fields remain relatively clean with minimal marks, and the eye appeal is outstanding - exactly what CAC looks for when applying their coveted gold sticker. The original, undisturbed surfaces give this coin a special presence that photographs simply can't fully capture.
