1917-S Type 2 Standing Liberty Quarter (25c)
NGC
MS64
CAC
The 1917-S Type 2 Standing Liberty Quarter features the modified design with Liberty's partially covered torso. This modified design was introduced midway through 1917 in response to public concern over the original "bare breast" depiction. The San Francisco mint produced fewer of these Type 2 quarters than Philadelphia, making the 1917-S Type 2 notably scarcer than its Philadelphia counterpart.
This NGC MS64 example with CAC approval exhibits impressive quality for the grade. The surfaces display bright, satiny luster with minimal marks or abrasions. Its strike is notably strong, with well-defined head details and shield elements that often come weak on this issue. The coin has developed a light, natural silver-gray patina that enhances its eye appeal while confirming its originality. The eagle on the reverse is particularly sharp, with excellent feather definition throughout the wings.
