1920 Maine Commemorative Half Dollar (50c)
PCGS
MS65
CAC
The 1920 Maine Centennial half dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of Maine's statehood. With a modest mintage of just 50,028 pieces, this issue has long been regarded as one of the more challenging early commemorative half dollars to acquire in gem condition. While not the rarest commemorative half dollar, finding examples with strong strikes and clean surfaces can be difficult.
This CAC-approved MS65 example certified by PCGS displays brilliant, frosty luster with an appealing silver-white appearance throughout. The surfaces are remarkably clean for the grade, showing minimal marks or abrasions. The strike is exceptionally sharp, with full detail evident in Maine's state seal on the obverse and the fine details of the pinecone wreath on the reverse. The eye appeal is outstanding – exactly what you'd hope to find in a premium quality commemorative half.
