1927-S Buffalo Nickel (5c)
PCGS MS65
The 1927-S Buffalo Nickel stands as one of the more challenging San Francisco issues from the Roaring Twenties. With a mintage of 3.43 million pieces, it's considerably scarcer than its Philadelphia and Denver counterparts from the same year, especially in gem condition. The Great Depression that followed shortly after its release meant fewer examples were saved in high grades.
This MS65 example certified by PCGS displays a rich, original golden-brown patina that has developed naturally over nearly a century. The surfaces show excellent preservation with clean fields and minimal marks for the grade. Strong definition appears on the high points, particularly noticeable in the buffalo's shoulder and horn details. The luster remains intact beneath the toning, creating impressive eye appeal as light plays across the surfaces. An exceptional representative of this scarcer San Francisco issue that would enhance any high-grade Buffalo Nickel collection.
