1936 Buffalo Nickel (5c) Satin
PCGS
PR67+
CAC
The 1936 Buffalo Nickel was produced during the Great Depression, when proof coins were still a relatively new concept for the general public. Only 4,420 proof Buffalo nickels were struck this year, making them quite scarce. These proof coins were struck using specially prepared dies and planchets, creating distinctive satin finishes that set them apart from their business strike or "brilliant proof" counterparts.
This superb PR67+ CAC example showcases why the 1936 proofs are so desirable. The completely original satin surfaces display a lovely golden-bronze patina with absolutely minimal imperfections. The strike is razor-sharp, particularly evident in the buffalo's fur detail and the feathers in the headdress. The fields are pristine and show the distinctive satin finish characteristic of these special strikes. The eye appeal is extraordinary, even for this elevated grade.
