The 1955 Lincoln Cent with Doubled Die Obverse is one of the most dramatic and popular die varieties in U.S. numismatics. The doubling occurred during the die manufacturing process, creating a spectacular error that's visible without magnification. While many were discovered in cigarette packs given as change in the Northeast, the vast majority entered circulation before the variety was discovered.
This AU58BN example has earned CAC approval and was graded by CACG, confirming its superior eye appeal for the grade. The surfaces display an even, medium-brown patina with traces of original mint luster still visible in protected areas. The dramatic doubling is bold and clear, particularly visible in the date and lettering. For a coin that briefly circulated, the surfaces are remarkably clean and problem-free.
