1902 $10 Plain Back National - Granite City, IL (Charter 6564)

VF

This 1902 $10 National Bank Note from The Granite City National Bank of Granite City, Illinois represents a fascinating piece of early 20th-century banking history. Charter #6564 was one of only a handful of banks in this industrial Illinois town, which was founded in 1896 to serve the growing steel industry. The bank issued just $439,990 in large-size notes during its entire existence, making surviving examples particularly scarce.

This Fine-VF example shows moderate but even circulation, with clear folds and light soiling consistent with the grade. The paper retains good body and crispness despite its circulation. The blue charter numbers and Treasury seal remain bold and vibrant against the white paper. The reverse design, featuring the allegorical figure of America, displays strong detail in the green inking, though some light staining is evident. The margins are full and even, contributing to its solid eye appeal.
