1922 $10 Gold Certificate

PCGS 35

This 1922 $10 Gold Certificate, Fr. 1173, represents an important piece of American monetary history. These Gold Certificates were actually backed by gold coins held in the Treasury, as boldly stated on the note itself: "TEN DOLLARS IN GOLD COIN." The distinctive orange-gold seal and serial numbers make these notes immediately recognizable and sought after. The Speelman-White signature combination appears on notes from the final years of large-size Gold Certificates before their redemption was prohibited in 1933.

Graded Choice VF 35 by PCGS, this note has circulated but retains solid integrity and excellent eye appeal. The orange-gold Treasury seal and serial numbers remain vibrant against the black design elements. Several folds are evident but don't distract from the overall presentation. The orange reverse is particularly striking, with its sunburst rays emanating from the central eagle design. The paper maintains good body despite the circulation, and the margins are well-proportioned for the grade.
