1934A $500 Federal Reserve Note
PCGS 64
This 1934A $500 Federal Reserve Note, Fr. 2202-L, from the San Francisco district represents one of the most substantial denominations ever circulated in America. The $500 note was already becoming uncommon in everyday commerce by the 1930s, and the San Francisco district had relatively lower printings compared to some eastern counterparts. This high denomination was officially discontinued in 1969 with the last of these notes printed in 1945.
Graded Choice Uncirculated 64 by PCGS, this note maintains exceptional quality for a high denomination. The paper is bright with strong embossing evident. The green overprinted denomination and black elements show excellent contrast against the white background. The margins are well-proportioned, particularly for a note of this size. The reverse displays a deep, uniform green with crisp detail throughout the intricate scrollwork. Notes of this denomination in uncirculated condition have become increasingly difficult to acquire since their official recall.
